Having set foot here, currently he is a wetland scientist and has been living the Mangrove dreams in Singapore for almost 3 years! He is a currently a Professor in Department of Geography, NUS. Don’t be fooled by this ‘ang-moh’; he speaks Singlish and trots the mangroves like a boss! This maestro is also an Indiana Jones wannabe in the mangroves!

Rick a.k.a. Mangrove Apprentice

Rick has just completed his undergraduate studies in May 2012. His Honours project involved mapping mangroves trees and surface elevation in Mandai mangrove. After being introduced to mangroves, he just cannot stay away from them! He has mapped mangrove trees in Mandai for almost a year and continues to do so as a Research Assistant in NUS! There’s never a dull moment when you’re going out to mangroves with Rick because he yaks non-stop, regardless if it is mangrove or non-mangrove related topics!

Wei Kit

Wei Kit has graduated from NUS in 2011, specializing in Biology! Having completed his Honours project which is related to terrestrial forests, Wei Kit has been drawn away the terrestrial forests and now works Research Assistant in NUS dealing with several mangrove projects! Wei Kit is extremely focused and dedicated to his work in the mangroves. He has been assisting Rick with his mapping project and continues to do so! Like a boss, Wei Kit gets his mangrove work done without a single sigh!

Currently a retiree (but not from the intertidals!), Ria is an expert in identification fauna and flora regardless mangroves, seagrass or coral reefs. As her name suggests in Malay (‘Ria’ in Malay = jovial), she is extremely fun to work with the mangroves with her bubbly personality and her depth of knowledge of intertidal biodiversity. She is an example that you need not a degree in Biology in order to appreciate nature!

Rachel Oh a.k.a. Rory

Rachel conducted a year research project on sedimentation in Mandai mangrove during her 2nd Year as an undergraduate and since then, she can’t stay away from the mangroves! She has recently graduated from NUS. During her years as an undergraduate, Rachel has provided a lot of mangrove-related projects, including Dan’s and Rick’s projects.
